Big sale at Dunham’s Music House

I just found out in the last few days that Dunham’s Music house is having a huge sale. They’ve been owned in recent years by McFayden Music (and they in turn bought by Brook Mays Music) and that company has declared bankrupcy and everything is being liquidated (10-30%). The only exception to this seems to be print music (which seems to be owned by another company.) So, if you’re looking for a new piano/guitar or drum set you might catch a good price. Also, they’ve still got some electronics (keyboards/sound equipment.) It appears that the parent company of the group is Brook Mays Music… (http://www.brookmays.com/stores/storelisting.aspx?state=NC) (gives a listing of NC stores.)

In a message from the “new owners” on the Brook Mays site, they say they will continue instrument rentals but right now can’t commit to all locations staying open. (According to this article from El Paso on the Brook Mays bankruptcy, they are to close all 62 stores by November.) I hope that means that there is some hope that Dunham’s will remain open. It’s been around for a good number of years now.

Some of the prices were pretty impressive (especially instruments). Some of the electronics weren’t as impressive (one portastudio I just compared the price online and it was a bit cheaper). That’s the biggest problem I see with a retailer trying to keep electronics based audio equipment in inventory, it’s worth (resale value) goes down so quickly. Unfortunately that’s true for most digital pianos and the pro sound equipment. (Like the portastudios and digital audio workstations, effects boxes, etc.)

[...] I mentioned some time back, the closing of Dunham’s Music House (McFayden Music) here in Asheville. Well, I found out that many of the people that were involved with Dunham’s have gone in at a new location called The Music Center. They opened this week in the River Ridge Shopping Center (next to Fat Buddies BBQ). When I stopped by they were still unpacking the sheet music, but it looks promising…… glad to see somewhat of a successor to Dunham’s. [...]
