My name is Avery J. Parker. Among other things I give piano lessons at the Asheville Music School in Asheville, NC. (250 Charlotte Street) Music was one of two major tracks that I studied for my Bachelor’s degree and I’ve been teaching at the Asheville Music School since 1998. Over that time, I’ve had students of all ages from 5 up to beyond retirement. The skill levels of the students have been from beginners through advanced-intermediate students looking to either brush up their skills or improve theirmusic reading skills.
Most of my lessons are half an hour, once per week. Although, I have scheduled hour long lessons for some students that requested it. This site will be a repository for a lot of the documents that I’ve accumulated for lessons (staff paper, note naming, rhythm drills), as well as other resources on music study, possibly including information on music events in the Asheville area. In some ways this is a site that I’ve wanted to do for about 10 years now. Around 1996 I had just started the second version of a genealogy site and was hoping to do a site for my music interests. I had hoped that a fixture there would be a calendar of upcoming events. That didn’t materialize for quite a few reasons and I’m thinking that may be a direction this site will go.
As you might know, I do have other sites online and of course, the lesson obligations as well as computer service work (yes I do quite a few things, it keeps me out of trouble and the variety is one thing that’s always helped things to even out.) So, I don’t know how often I will be updating here. In fact, once I have a certain amount of information in place this site may see periods of relative quiet.
